Meet Sailing Uma

Sailing Uma is Dan and Kika, a couple who traded the usual path for life on the water. After college they took a friend’s advice to heart: “If you want to travel the world, don’t buy a couch.” So they bought a 1972 Pearson 36 sailboat named Uma and moved aboard. That was more than a decade ago.

Since then, they’ve sailed over 28,000 nautical miles. They’ve cruised the Caribbean, crossed the North Atlantic, and sailed all the way up to Svalbard, without burning a single gallon of diesel. They took out Uma’s engine and built their own electric system, starting with a $100 forklift motor they found on eBay. Now they mostly sail and use the motor only to get in and out of tight spots.

On their YouTube channel, they share the whole adventure: fixing things, figuring it out as they go, and living simply and sustainably. Along the way they’ve inspired hundreds of thousands of people to see the world a little differently.

That’s a big part of why we’re so excited to work with them. Dan and Kika care about the same things we do: adventure, creativity, and protecting the ocean we all love.

Something’s brewing with Sailing Uma ⛵

A few weeks ago, a handful of boxes showed up at the shop, all the way from Italy. Inside: sails that have crossed oceans with Dan and Kika of Sailing Uma.

Since then, we’ve been on lots of video calls, sketching ideas, and dreaming up what these sails could become. We can’t say much yet, but we’re making something special, and we can’t wait to share it.

Stay tuned!
